After extensive renovation work, the brine line path between Steeg (Bad Goisern municipality) and Ebensee will be accessible again from Saturday. The road had previously had to be closed due to the acute danger of falling rocks. Extensive rock clearing and forest maintenance work was carried out along the path on behalf of the Soleleitungsweg interest group, to which Salinen Austria AG, Salzwelten GmbH, the city of Bad Ischl, the municipalities of Bad Goisern and Ebensee, the tourism associations and the federal forestry belong.
The renovation cost around one hundred thousand euros, during which 120 cubic meters of loose rock and more than 30 cubic meters of dead wood were removed. Twelve industrial climbers and professionals from forestry were in action. Hanging from a rope, they carried out the dangerous work under the highest safety requirements. Rock that could not be detached due to its size was secured with nets and gratings.
Hikers are asked to remain vigilant when using the reopened brine pipeline path. Despite extensive renovation work, there is a risk of falling rocks. Especially in heavy rain, storms and thunderstorms, the brine line path should not be walked on.
The section between Steeg and Hallstatt must remain closed for the time being. Extensive security measures are also planned there, although their implementation will likely take several years.
