The number of new SARS-CoV-2 infections was thus above the average of the past seven days, according to which 9,719 infections per day were added. The seven-day incidence has continued to rise, standing at 757.6 on Friday, down from 741 and 707.8 the previous days. The number of hospital patients is also increasing.
On Friday, 105,151 laboratory-confirmed active cases were known in Austria, 3,951 more than on Thursday. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 4,438,883 cases have been registered in Austria. 4,314,940 infected people have since recovered. Within the past 24 hours, 6,468 patients have been reported as healthy again.
The effective number of reproductions fell slightly compared to the previous week from 1.25 to 1.18, according to the update from the experts from the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) and Graz University of Technology. This means that 100 infected people infect 118 other people with SARS-CoV-2. The estimated daily increase is 5.1 percent – compared to the previous week (9.1 percent) also a decrease.
Five people have died from or with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, which is exactly the average of the past seven days. A total of 35 people died in connection with Covid disease in the past week. According to the figures from the ministries, there have been 18,792 corona deaths in Austria since the beginning of the pandemic, the Agency for Health and Food Safety reported 20,057 people on Thursday or died with Covid-19. Almost 210 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died in connection with Covid since the outbreak of the pandemic.
The number of hospital patients related to Covid disease rose by 16 compared to the previous day and stood at 870 on Friday. Of them, 49 people were in intensive care units, eight more than on Thursday. Within a week, the number of patients in ICUs increased by seven.
On Thursday, 3,435 vaccinations were carried out, of which 122 were first stitches. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, 6,832,026 people received at least one vaccination. 5,006,081 people and thus 55.7 percent of Austrians are basic immunized – with three vaccinations.
The seven-day incidence varies greatly from region to region – also due to the different levels of testing intensity. It was highest on Friday in Vienna with 1,280.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In all other federal states it was three digits: in Lower Austria it was 828.4, in Burgenland 719.7, in Vorarlberg 622.7, in Salzburg 592.1, in Upper Austria 559.4, in Styria 540 .8, in Tyrol at 490.3 and in Carinthia at 408.3.
