“There was only one tractor here in March,” says Mona Horncastle. The German author and curator Mona Horncastle has had a lot to do in the past four months at the Starhemberg Castle Museum in Eferding. Yesterday the exhibition “Das Wir im Ich” opened as the start of the new format “communale” – and everything went so far. And because there are still so many ideas from her and LKG boss Alfred Weidinger, this show will be changed “five or six times” until October 26th.
The exhibition shows historical pieces from the Landes-Kultur GmbH collection, such as an original hat by Stefan Fadinger and many items on loan from the people of Eferding and the surrounding area.
It’s always about objects that create identity, i.e. what did people wear, what did they eat, how did they set up. Mona Horncastle visited many people and was impressed by the hospitality: “There is great openness and generosity here. There was also a great willingness to engage in conversation. I was with people at home, in the attics, in the Cellars and bedrooms – and was allowed to serve me everywhere.” Original quotes from the conversations can be read on the walls, and the conversations can be heard over loudspeakers.
In the ancestral hall of the castle there are large-format photos from the area, such as Ukrainian harvest workers. In the same room, the biographies of many Eferdingers, of whom historical photos have been collected, are also recorded.
Over the next few weeks and months, the “communale”, which is being held in the city to celebrate the 800th anniversary of Eferding, will continue with numerous events. On Tuesday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m., the Linz “Kepler Salon” will be a guest in the garden salon of Starhemberg Castle. Christine Haiden talks to the philosopher Thomas Mohrs on the subject of “Climate in the head”.
