In Upper Austria, 700,000 people were employed in June, more than ever before. There are around 35,000 vacancies compared to 24,131 job seekers. This was announced yesterday by the AMS Upper Austria.
The demand also increases the chances for those groups that have it particularly difficult. There was a one-fifth and one-sixth decrease in reservations over the course of a year for those over 55 and those with health conditions, respectively.

Podium place is gone
Overall, the unemployment rate in Upper Austria fell from 3.4 percent in May to 3.3 percent in June. “Unemployment is declining in all districts. We are still seeing increasing reports of vacancies,” says AMS Vice President Iris Schmidt. Despite the decline, however, the podium place in the nationwide full employment ranking is gone. While Upper Austria reported the lowest unemployment rate for all of Austria at 3.4 percent in May, it was overtaken by two federal states in June. Salzburg is at the top with an unemployment rate of 2.9 percent, followed by Tyrol, which is also very popular with tourists, with 3.0 percent. With 9.8 percent jobseekers, Vienna has the red lantern. The national average goes from 5.7 percent in May to 5.5 percent in June.
“More people are currently working than ever before,” says Economics Minister Martin Kocher. 3.95 million are currently employed. That is 190,000 more than in June 2019, i.e. in the “pre-Corona period”.
AMS board member Johannes Kopf has 141,000 vacancies to offer; 3000 more than in May. He is sometimes asked by desperately searching companies “where did all the people go”. “You work,” says Kopf then succinctly. (haas)
