A purified man?
It doesn’t matter whether France de Meurs critically approaches the French President during a question time or sets scenes in a reportage in the war zone – it’s more about her, the TV star, than about the real events, real life.
However, she suddenly becomes aware of the decoupling fueled by her own arrogance when she hits a moped driver with the car. What, objectively speaking, ends lightly, causes France to shake so much that she lands on the hard ground of reality mentally. What will become of her? Dumont answers this question in an artful, down-to-earth, very well-designed film, the narrative of which repeatedly, sometimes too often, “fools” changes – France as a reformed journalist, as a better person? From this unpredictability, the film draws an allure that is difficult to resist. Seydoux, on the other hand, reveals the many layers of a woman in a way that gets under the skin and should not be trusted until the end. (nb)
