The desire to travel is great and the first holiday weekend starts for the students from Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. While road traffic slowly increased over the first weekends in July in the years before the pandemic, the ÖAMTC now expects heavy traffic jams and a veritable “lightning start” to the holidays.
Especially the routes to the south will be heavily congested due to holidaymakers from the east of Austria as well as from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the two German states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein: Especially on the Tauernautobahn (A10) in the Salzburg area, before the Delays are to be expected in the Gleinalm tunnel and in front of Spielfeld, on the Inntal motorway (A12) and in South Tyrol. Furthermore, some roads will be closed tomorrow, Sunday, due to an Ironman event in the greater Wörthersee area.
Inexpensive refueling on vacation
After fuel prices in Austria have risen sharply in recent weeks, ÖAMTC transport manager Nikola Junick advises planning fuel stops before setting off in order to avoid expensive gas stations in Austria. In Italy, Croatia and Slovenia, the price level for petrol is currently below that in Austria.
