The ÖAMTC reported that travel on Saturday morning was initially without major problems. However, several breakdowns and accidents triggered traffic jams. In Upper Austria, the Wels autobahn (A25) before Wels/Ost in the direction of Suben was closed for hours after a truck accident. It was diverted via the Voralpenkreuz junction (A1, A8).
In the state of Salzburg, the Tauern tunnel was closed for about an hour from seven in the morning in the southbound direction. The reason was a caravan with tire damage. A traffic jam quickly formed on the important transit route of the A10 to the south, around 10 a.m. it was backed up between Eben and Flachau around six kilometers in the direction of Villach.
In Styria, a traffic accident in the early morning triggered traffic jams on the southern motorway (A2) before Hartberg in the direction of Graz. Here, too, the traffic jam was several kilometers long, according to the ÖAMTC
There were delays due to construction sites in Lower Austria on the Ost Autobahn (A4) in the direction of Hungary near Göttlesbrunn and on the Semmering expressway (S6) between Gloggnitz and Schottwien in the direction of Styria.
According to the ÖAMTC, travelers had to be prepared for longer stays at the border when entering Croatia. The waiting time at the Slovenian/Croatian Gruskovje/Macelj crossing on the direct connection from Marburg towards Zagreb has been around 1.5 hours since the morning hours. Many travelers are likely to have left for Croatia during the night hours.
