Again more than 10,000 new infections in Austria

It was exactly 10,071, 1,159 more than a week ago, according to the Ministry of Health and the Interior. This number was again above the average of the past seven days with 9,884 cases. The seven-day incidence also rose from 757.6 to 770.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants within one day. Thus, the summer corona wave continues to build up.

Most of the new infections were again in Vienna with 2,999 cases, with far more being tested in the federal capital than in the other federal states. Then comes Lower Austria with 2,192 new infections within 24 hours, followed by Upper Austria with 1,638, Styria with 1,028, Tyrol with 574, Carinthia with 471, Vorarlberg with 445, Salzburg with 394 and Burgenland with 330 new cases.

Thus, Vienna is also the province with the highest seven-day incidence with 1,267.4, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Vorarlberg (849.6, 733.5 and 650.4 respectively). Then come Salzburg (593.6), Upper Austria (589.2), Styria (552.4), Tyrol (507.4) and Carinthia (437.2).

There was also an increase of 2,570 cases in the actively infected, which currently accounts for 107,721 cases. The increase in new infections also means an increase in hospital occupancy. There are currently 874 patients with SARS-CoV-2 in the hospital. That’s four more than the day before. 58 people are being cared for in intensive care units. That number has increased by nine since yesterday and has increased by 14 patients in a week. There has been one death since Friday. 35 deaths have been registered in the past seven days. According to the Ministry of Health and the Interior, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,793 lives in Austria since it broke out. However, AGES already reported 20,061 fatalities on Friday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 4,448,954 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,322,440 people have recovered from an infection. Within the past 24 hours, 7,500 were considered healthy again.
