Less gas to store again

The AGSI database from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) shows a storage capacity of 99.4 gigawatt hours (GWh) for Friday, July 1st. The filling level increased only slightly compared to the previous day from 45.12 to 45.20 percent. It is the second time within a few days that less than 100 GWh per day has been stored.

Government advises on Tuesday

On Tuesday, June 28, it was only 70 GWh. The government’s goal is to fill the storage tanks to 80 percent by the start of the heating season. In order to reach the target, more than 33,000 GWh still have to be stored. Because storage “decreased noticeably” last week, the government will discuss the situation on Tuesday.

Video: The gas supply in Europe is becoming increasingly insecure. Germany even fears a total failure of Russian gas supplies and is calling on people to save energy. The situation is also serious in Austria, says the energy minister:

There is a risk of an increase in short-time work

Should Russia stop supplying natural gas altogether, this would have dramatic consequences for the Austrian economy. “Honestly, if the gas weren’t flowing, we’d have several hundred thousand people on short-time work,” said AMS board member Johannes Kopf on Saturday on ORF radio. It’s hard to believe how much depends on the gas, says Kopf.
