20-year-old wanted to go swimming after the market festival and crashed

The boy fell about eight meters down a steep embankment and suffered serious injuries, the police said in the evening. In the morning, the 20-year-old had been drinking with friends and then went to the market festival in Ternberg.

Because of the heat, he, his 21-year-old brother and a 20-year-old friend decided to cool off in the Enns. In the area of the local bridge, the two younger climbed over a chain link fence to a heavily overgrown, steep embankment around ten meters above the river, while the 21-year-old watched them from the bridge.

The boys tried to climb down the overgrown slope to the water. They came to a small plateau and then on to even steeper terrain, where they both lost their footing and slipped. At first they were able to hold on to branches, but one of them soon lost his strength. He fell about eight meters and sustained serious injuries.

The other boy was pulled up by the 21-year-old and survived the accident unscathed. The rescue of the seriously injured was difficult, the police said. He was taken to a suitable place by fire engine boat, from where he was taken to the Kepler University Hospital by rescue helicopter.
