Cooling off in sight: Midsummer is taking a break

“I hope everyone still enjoyed the midsummer temperatures on Sunday. Because now we are facing unstable weather conditions with a significant drop in temperature,” says Michael Butschek from ZAMG.

Already today, Monday, clouds and short sunny spells alternate from Vorarlberg to the western Innviertel before the first heavy rain showers and isolated thunderstorms appear, especially in the Innviertel, then also in the central area and in the Pyhrn region. These can be severe in places. In Upper Austria, the maximum temperatures are between 24 and 28 degrees. “You can clearly see that the cold front, which is currently over Bavaria, is moving towards us,” says Butschek.

Dryer but slightly cooler weather is expected from tomorrow, Tuesday. In the early morning, scattered rain showers are to be expected in the southern highlands, but in the morning it will be friendlier in the north of the state and the sun will make its way through the cloud cover. The thermometer reaches maximum values between 23 and 27 degrees.

Similar temperatures also prevail on Wednesday, but according to ZAMG meteorologists it will be drier on this day. Cumulative clouds appear only occasionally, otherwise it will remain sunny throughout the day. “When planning outdoor activities, I definitely advise people to consider Wednesday,” says Butschek.

Cool air from the North Atlantic

On Thursday, too, it will initially remain sunny with temperatures up to 25 degrees, although rain showers are already expected in the afternoon. “From Thursday, the cool air from the North Atlantic will come to us in Upper Austria, which will make the wind stronger on Friday,” says Butschek. There will also be some heavy rain showers on Friday night. The wind from the north-west reaches peak values of around 40 km/h, “which means that the temperatures of 24 degrees feel significantly cooler,” says Butschek. It’s unstable on weekends. (cape)
