Agreement: Schärding’s former mayor has paid back part of the mayor’s salary

As reported, Angerer, who was defeated by Günter Streicher (SP) in the runoff election in autumn, received too much mayoral salary. The Upper Austrian Municipal Code only provides for a part-time mayor’s salary for mayors who are already receiving a pension. However, Angerer received a full-time salary. The long-serving mayor has now paid back the difference of EUR 62,228.80 for the past three years to the municipality of Schärding. “In addition, Angerer has voluntarily and without any legal obligation also repaid those amounts that are indisputably already statute-barred. In the form of donations to the Schärding volunteer fire brigade and the Schärding city kindergarten,” says a press release from the city.
Angerer: For 18 years I was fully committed to the town of Schärding. Nothing was further from my mind than to deliberately damage them.”

“In the interest of the community, I’m glad that we found a solution that was good for both sides without arguments or courts,” says Schärding’s mayor Günter Streicher. The City Council unanimously endorsed the move. The Austrian Association of Municipalities and the State of Upper Austria were involved in the talks.
