The elementary school class from Weißkirchen an der Traun took part in a guided tour of the country house in the morning, where the Upper Austrian state parliament meeting room is also located. The group was standing in the middle of the hall at around ten o’clock when suddenly an eight by three centimeter piece of mortar came loose from the ceiling and hit a ten-year-old girl on the forearm. The girl essentially escaped unscathed and suffered a minor abrasion, which was treated with a plaster on the spot.
Scaffolding was erected
The teacher reported the incident to the citizen service of the country house, “so that nothing more dramatic happens in the future,” as the teacher said in the OÖN telephone call.
Those responsible immediately went to the meeting room to investigate the cause: according to this, the piece of mortar may have come loose from an exhaust air shaft. Because during the tour of the meeting room, preparatory work for the renovations from July 11th was already taking place. At that time scaffolding was being erected.
Stucco is examined
The stucco on the ceiling must also be examined more closely, it said on Monday from the press department of the state of Upper Austria. The consequence: For safety reasons, there will be no guided tours in the state parliament’s meeting room this week.
