The troubled energy company Uniper continues to struggle with the consequences of the reduced gas delivery volumes via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline. As reported, the group called for help from the state a few days ago because of the high financial burden of buying replacement volumes on the spot market. Now the search for solutions becomes more urgent. “As in the past few days, we are still at around 40 percent of the quantities we standardized that arrive in Germany,” it said yesterday.
According to a spokeswoman for German Economics Minister Robert Habeck, talks are being held with Uniper about stabilization measures. Uniper has not yet drawn the existing credit line of the state bank KfW of two billion euros. This serves to ward off acute liquidity needs. Uniper had stated that investments in the form of equity were also possible. That would mean that the state, similar to the Lufthansa airline in the corona crisis, would temporarily join Uniper.
In order to distribute possible drastic price jumps more evenly to gas customers, the federal government is also working on a possible allocation system.
