LASK has found what they are looking for in their search for another centre-forward: Efthymios Koulouris is now putting on the black and white dress. The 26-year-old striker is moving to Linz from the Greek first division club Atromitos Athens. In the past season, the undisputed regular player scored 14 goals and two assists in 32 league games – making him the third-best goalscorer in the Greek Super League in the regular season.
Trained at the traditional Greek club PAOK Thessaloniki, Efthymios Koulouris celebrated his first division debut in spring 2014. With PAOK, he won the Greek Cup twice, in 2017 and 2018, and was top scorer with 19 goals in the 2018/19 season.
To France for 3.5 million euros
In 2019, he made the leap into one of the top European leagues by moving to FC Toulouse in French Ligue 1. The transfer fee was 3.5 million euros at the time. Last year he joined Atromitos Athens and thus returned to his homeland. Koulouris has also gained plenty of experience at national team level, making 18 appearances for Greece.
From now on he will make the penalty areas of the Austrian Bundesliga unsafe. “The club made a lot of effort to get me and my first impressions of the club are very positive. I’m full of anticipation for my new job at LASK and can’t wait to start training and get to know the team,” says the new LASK attacker.
Robust goalscorer
With the commitment, LASK sports director Radovan Vujanovic is taking another important step in squad planning: “We wanted to strengthen ourselves in the storm headquarters, that was one of our goals in this transfer phase. With Efthymios we are gaining a very robust player who has already proven his nose for goals several times. His character was also absolutely convincing in our discussions: He is determined to play a successful season with LASK.
For head coach Didi Kühbauer, the new signing means another option in attack: “Efthymios is exactly the type of player we were looking for – for our offensive he is an important addition who can help us with his experience. I am very pleased that he has chosen LASK.”
