Ten of them, including three children, were taken to hospitals for treatment, the newspaper “Diario de Mallorca” and other media reported on Tuesday, citing the Samu emergency service on the Spanish holiday island. A seven-year-old was seriously injured, it said.
The incident happened on Monday afternoon in a hotel in Port d’Alcúdia in northern Mallorca. According to the hotel management, the cause of the accident is a technical problem with the chlorine supply. The hotel pool was temporarily closed and reopened after around two hours with normal chlorine levels.
The condition of the patients treated in the hospital is stable, said a spokesman for the Hospital Son Espases in the island’s capital, Palma. The injured complained of itching, vomiting, respiratory problems and a burning sensation in the eyes.
