The mallard is said to have stayed in the manure pit for three weeks before landing on clean ground with the help of a net. The Tierschutzhof Pfotenhilfe reported on Tuesday about the “unusual call for help” that reached them from Lengau (Braunau district). The duck got stuck in the fenced manure pit.
Local residents provided the feathered animal with food and wanted to get it out, but failed again and again. That’s why they asked the Pfotenhilfe for advice at the weekend, which provided them with landing nets. Several people started another attempt – again without success. “The duck crept into a shaft,” said the Innviertler Tierschutzhof.
Relaxation at the pond
So yesterday Monday they decided to try it themselves. This time the rescue was successful. First it was necessary to wash the completely soiled animal. “And of course ourselves too,” says Johanna Stadler from Pfotenhilfe with a smile. The young animal is now being raised in a pond on the grounds of the animal shelter until it can fly away on its own. “If you want, you can of course stay,” says Stadler.
