After two years: Raid on money transporter in alcove solved

The crime happened more than two years ago. A witness put the investigators on the trail of a 35-year-old from the Eferding district who had attacked a money transporter in front of the bank in Alkoven on May 13, 2020. He was arrested “after extensive investigations,” said the State Police Directorate on Tuesday. The Upper Austrian and his 33-year-old cousin, who is said to have driven the getaway car, confessed during the interrogation. The alleged main perpetrator gave his precarious financial situation and his gambling addiction as the motive. The two men are now in Wels Prison.

What happened in Alkoven on May 13, 2020? A review:

Shortly after 8 a.m., a man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava came to the Sparkasse branch on Eferdinger Strasse near the parish church. Protected by the regulations with a white mouth and nose mask, the stranger did not enter the business premises, but positioned himself in the foyer.

As it turned out later, the stranger stopped the money transporter there. He didn’t have to wait long, just a few minutes later the vehicle stopped right in front of the bank. When the driver got out with his suitcase of money and walked towards the bank, the perpetrator rushed towards him and bumped into him. Holding a pistol in front of him, the perpetrator commanded the money messengers in Austrian dialect with the words “Here your suitcase!” to give him the money.

Because the completely perplexed driver did not react immediately, the robber snatched the suitcase from him. He then ran to the gray or white small car parked in the back of the bank branch and fled with his accomplice to Eferdinger Strasse (B129). There they lost track.

The license plates that the two strangers used for the robbery had been removed from another car in the public parking lot in front of the Eferding outdoor pool. The money messenger, who suffered a severe shock, immediately informed the bank employees after the robbery, who finally alerted the police.
