Some drivers were amazed on Monday afternoon on Lasberger Straße: A free-running mare, with a rake caught in her tail, had strayed onto the state road. The horse had escaped from a farm in the village of Edlau and galloped through the roundabout in the direction of Freistadt.
A volunteer animal rescue, who was on the road professionally, tried to warn other road users and informed the emergency services. At about the level of the fire station, the hoofed animal fell over a wall and injured its hind leg.
Neighbors and witnesses managed to calm the panicked horse a little and encircle it in the area of a crossing. The forces of the Lasberg volunteer fire brigade also secured the area with scissor gates. After being treated by a veterinarian, the horse was picked up by its owner and loaded onto a trailer.
