“Creation of a rainbow pedestrian crossing” is the name of the agenda item 5.14, which is to be voted on this evening at the meeting of the Rieder municipal council. The creation of these protective routes, which stand as a sign of equal treatment for people of all sexual orientations, is being discussed in many places across Austria. In Ried, this is to be implemented in the area of Friedrich-Thurner-Straße at the corner of Froschaugasse and Marktplatz. “I assume that there will be a majority for it,” said Ried’s mayor Bernhard Zwielehner (ÖVP) yesterday in the OÖN interview.
In Braunau, too, a rainbow protection path on the town square will be voted on tomorrow. The application for the redesign of the zebra crossing between the town hall and the Café Melange comes from the SPÖ and should be “as a sign of diversity in the population of Braunau”. The municipal council in Braunau meets on Thursday, July 7th at 6 p.m. in the event center.
changes in the center
In Ried it will be interesting today from a traffic point of view: Several changes are to be decided in the municipal council meeting. Among other things, it should be fixed that the popular green market should have its future on the upper main square. The traffic routing on Tuesdays will also be changed for this purpose. The entrance to the lower main square should then be via Neugasse, and the exit via Rathausgasse.
In the future, it will no longer be possible to enter the main square from Roßmarkt via Gebhartgasse. “The first, very small pedestrian zone in Ried is to be created here,” says Zwielehner. This is a small start for a traffic-calmed city center.
The controversial post limit at Schönauerweg (city park) could also be before the end. A new regulation of the parking regulation Schönauerweg 1-29 will also be voted on today in the town hall.
