Many boys and girls are looking forward to the Rieder elementary school football cup. After a two-year Corona break, the tournament organized by Gerald Hartl from “Schule am Ball”, an initiative of the Upper Austrian Football Association, can finally take place again this year in the last week of school.
On Wednesday, July 6th, starting at 9 a.m., the round leather will be rolling on four small soccer fields in the old Rieder stadium. “The elementary school cup is being held in Ried for the ninth time this year. We were the first district with such a tournament back then, and the cup is now being held in ten Upper Austrian districts,” says Hartl. 23 teams will play. “The tournament is being held in cooperation with the SV Ried Academy,” says Hartl.
“Great Vibe”
A team consists of a maximum of ten players. The game is played five against five, plus goalkeepers. A girl always has to be on the pitch. “It’s not about winning, it’s primarily about having fun and enjoying the last week of school. Children who don’t play make banners in handicraft lessons to cheer on their classmates. The atmosphere in the stands is always great,” says Hartl . The final will probably take place around noon, followed by the award ceremony.
