The Armenian had given the unknown woman dozens of stitches in the head, neck and shoulders. A passerby came to the woman’s aid, she survived.
“I plead not guilty,” said the defendant on Wednesday. “The AMS created such circumstances that I was forced to react in this way to save my life.” His money had been canceled and he had “almost starved to death”. He saw no other choice than to injure the woman with a knife “so that I could go to an institution and be provided with food”.
The 29-year-old suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and prosecutors have applied for placement in an institution for mentally abnormal offenders.
King of the Emirates
As prosecutor Tanja Wohlgemuth said, it was only thanks to fortunate circumstances that the 62-year-old survived: “She was dressed heavily, tried to protect herself, and passers-by intervened.” The 29-year-old fled after the crime, but later turned himself in to the police. The act was not a knee-jerk reaction: he had taken the kitchen knife with a 15-centimeter blade length from his apartment to attack someone, the prosecutor referred to what he said to the police. The man also stated that he was the king or prince of Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
The 29-year-old confirmed in a calm tone in front of the jury chaired by judge Sabine Roßmann that the act was not a knee-jerk reaction. However, he did not want to kill the woman, he said at the trial, unlike in front of the police: “I was careful.” And: “I am convinced that I am mentally absolutely healthy.”
The interrogation of the man was still ongoing in the morning. The hearing was scheduled to last until Wednesday afternoon.
