This morning, shortly before 7 a.m., the most beautiful walking weather on the Danube. A 54-year-old Steyregger took advantage of this and went for a walk with his dog on the Danube Cycle Path in his community. He had attached the dog to himself with a waist belt. Nearby, a 66-year-old from Ried in der Riedmark (district of Urfahr area) was on a leash with his hunting dog between the Danube Cycle Path and Au.
When the two dogs saw each other, they started barking. The hunting dog tore himself away from his master, which broke the leash and attacked the 54-year-old’s dog. But since it was attached to his master’s waist belt, the 54-year-old got caught in the middle of the dog fight and was bitten by the hunting dog. The two dogs then fell along with the 54-year-old down an embankment to the Danube, with the 54-year-old sustaining minor injuries.
The 66-year-old tried to call after his dog, but he no longer responded. The man then ran after them and was able to separate the dogs together with the 54-year-old. The 54-year-old was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
