With more than 700 monuments and around 90 percent of the city center under monument protection, Steyr is one of the outstanding historical regions in Austria. The largest monument in the city in terms of area is the palace park, which has been open to the public since 1919.
Thanks to the commitment of the “Forum Schlosspark”, which was founded in January a year ago, this inner-city jewel has once again become the focus of public attention. The city of Steyr has therefore hired the renowned landscape architect Alfred Benesch to draw up a development and maintenance plan for this green lung of the city center, which he regards as a district in its own right.
During the first citizens’ dialogue on Tuesday evening, the city informed more than 50 interested Steyr residents about the steps that had already been taken and the further plans. Among other things, the condition of the pond was improved and seating stones were laid to linger by the water. Subsequently, the pond fountain is to be reactivated, the cracked asphalt path in front of the garden center unsealed and new seating installed.
“I am pleased about the great interest in the castle park,” says Mayor Markus Vogl, “the evening was very well prepared from a professional point of view, the people are passionate about their work.” as a place to live and relax. Vogl: “So the question is: What should the park look like in 2045? We are working on that.”
