The Chinese car brand MG Motors is expanding rapidly in Europe: With the new model MG4 Electric, the popular C segment (vulgo Golf class) will also be used from the fourth quarter of 2022.
The five-door MG4 Electric hatchback, rear-wheel drive and a 50:50 front/rear weight distribution has an all-electric drive with two power levels (125 and 150 kW). The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is completed in less than eight seconds; propulsion ends at 160 km/h.
In addition, buyers can choose from two battery packs – with a capacity of 51 or 64 kilowatt hours (kWh). MG Motors promises a range of up to 450 kilometers. It is remarkable that the battery packs are only eleven centimeters high. This favors a better use of the interior space.
New electric platform
This is made possible by the new electric platform, which MG Motors calls MSP. Analogous to VW’s strategy (see report above), this changeable floor assembly offers maximum flexibility. With the MSP platform from MG Motors, wheelbases from 2650 to 3100 millimeters are possible. This means that different body shapes for different vehicle segments can be built on one platform – from hatchbacks and notchbacks to vans or SUVs.
Battery capacity is flexible
The flat battery pack (“one-pack system”) is similarly flexible: According to MG Motors, this technology makes it possible to produce battery packs with capacities from 40 kilowatt hours to 150 kilowatt hours. This means that in the future the energy requirements of everything from small cars to luxury models can be covered. (shoe)
