The preparations for the “Kaleidio 2022” have been going on for more than two years so that the around 700 youth groups and altar boy children can experience exciting days. In Steyr, they will sleep in three schools on air mattresses they have brought with them and can immerse themselves in six different adventure worlds during the day.
A children’s town
Among other things, the children will design their city “Perspektivia” themselves. The tasks they have to solve are diverse: How does cooperation work in a city, how does one become mayor, how does the garbage get off the street and how is a newspaper made? “The demands of the children are very different. There is therefore no pure creative, sports or music world, but each world of experience is varied, so that there is something for every child and every age group,” says Barbara Grüner, chairwoman of the Catholic youth group in Austria.
In the development policy adventure world, for example, the children will go on a journey of discovery together to get to know new countries, cultures and people. In the Bible world, many stories from the Bible have tumbled together, and the children can embark on a journey through time. Other adventure worlds deal with nature and superheroes, from whom the children should learn more about children’s rights, democracy and participation. A world of experience awaits you on program-free afternoons and evenings.
“Here, the children can use different offers in their small groups, such as the outdoor pool or the Steyr City Museum. But there will also be workshops that can be visited freely, where a raft can be built or playing an organ can be tried out,” says Lukas Plöbst, Overall leader of the Kaleidio.
The three evening events at the Kaleidio are also highlights. On Sunday, the participants celebrate a big birthday party together: the Catholic youth group celebrates its 75th anniversary. On Wednesday there will be a joint service with youth bishop Stephan Turnovszky in the Steyr town hall. Former members of the Catholic youth group and guests of honor from church and society will also celebrate. Afterwards there will be a reception for guests of honor, at which the 75th anniversary of the Catholic youth group will be celebrated. The last joint item on the program is the final show on Friday evening.
