Between July 11 and 29, more than 200 participants are expected to take part in a large number of courses, with international course leaders passing on their knowledge of various textile techniques and design processes.
Especially because of Corona, the desire to create something with your own hands again seems to be particularly great: The organizers are happy about the noticeably high level of interest this year. The opening ceremony of the symposium will take place on Monday at 7.30 p.m. in the small event hall of the TuK Vonwiller area.
International artists
At the same time, the new special exhibition will be opened, which will be on view in the Textile Center Haslach until October: The show “WWW – World Wide Weaving” shows a hand-picked selection of exquisite jacquard fabrics from international artists from Taiwan to California to Australia. They were – each in their own part of the world – pioneers of this technique and have influenced many younger weavers with their decades of work. Two of the artists will also be present at the opening. The exhibition does not show the large works, but primarily describes the work process and makes it possible to understand how the hand jacquard loom is used.
During the symposium there will be courses and exhibitions as well as an extensive supporting program with lectures, film screenings and visits. This year there will again be an experimental workshop where designers and artists can realize their own ideas on the electronically controlled jacquard weaving machine.
As the highlight of the Textile Weeks, the 23./24. July the international weavers market take place. More than 100 selected exhibitors will offer their high-quality products for sale in the special ambience of the “Auf der Stelzen” district and around the textile factory. The “Faserzone” materials fair can also be held at the same time again this year.
Embroider in the church tower
For many years, the “Textile Culture Haslach” association has been trying not only to offer guests who have traveled a long way an interesting program, but also to further develop the textile heritage of the place for the local population. This year there is a very special hands-on offer. In cooperation with the artist Joachim Eckl, for the project “Happy Hour – Moments of Connectedness”, strips of linen were installed on seven levels of the Haslach church tower, which are to be embroidered by all visitors by autumn. The panels are mounted in such a way that they can only be embroidered if one person is standing in front of and one behind the wall and the two opposite each other hand the needle. Without seeing each other, this rhythmic exchange creates a kind of dialogue. The project ties in with the “Bleichzeit” campaign, which was carried out in 2017 with the participation of the people from Haslach.
Individual visitors can take part in “Happy Hour – Moments of Connection” on July 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from July 14 to August 13, Thursday to Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The offer is aimed primarily at groups of children and adults who want to work together.
