In its meeting on Thursday evening, the Gramastettner municipal council did not reject the project by local farmer Christian Gierlinger to build a barn for 39,900 broilers. In a secret ballot, 18 of the 31 municipal councils voted in favor of initiating the necessary rezoning process. The Gramastetten municipal council consists of 18 representatives from the ÖVP, seven from the Greens, four from the SPÖ and two from the FPÖ.
The majority on Thursday does not automatically mean that the project would have been waved through. “Now the necessary reports from the specialist departments of the state government are being obtained. This will take a few months. On the basis of these expert opinions, the municipal council will then have to decide on the rededication,” Gramastetten’s mayor Andreas Fazeni (ÖVP) describes the further steps in this matter. This is the usual process in a reassignment process.
In the OÖN interview, Hans-Joachim Nesser makes no secret of the fact that he would have preferred a different result. He is one of those residents who are critical of the construction and who therefore initiated a public information evening on the project – the OÖN reported on it. “The problems that we residents see have not been eliminated. This ranges from additional truck journeys to possible contamination of drinking water. It’s a pity that a retro concept of factory farming that should be a thing of the past is to be implemented here.” on.
The application for the rededication comes from the farmer Christian Gierlinger. He currently runs a pig farm in Gramastetten, but would like to switch to chicken fattening. Due to the size of the project, part of his property has to be reclassified to “off-the-soil livestock farming”.
