1384 candidates face the medical entrance test in Upper Austria

Around 16,000 candidates across Austria had registered for the admissions procedure for medical studies by the end of March, but ultimately only 11,643 took part. Today they all face the test together, which takes place at the same time for the medical universities in Vienna, Innsbruck and Graz and the medical faculty of the Johannes Kepler University Linz. In Upper Austria, a total of 1,384 candidates are now taking the entrance exam for studying human medicine, which is being held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wels trade fair.

Queued since seven o’clock

The first test candidates were already in the queue at 7 a.m. and they could enter exhibition hall 20 from 7.15 a.m. “We divided the test candidates into different times so that they don’t all come at once. This is one of our Corona measures that we are taking on this test day. Masks are also compulsory throughout the exhibition area, and participants are only allowed to take off the FFP2 mask when they are seated,” says Vice Rector Stefan Koch.

310 places to be awarded

The JKU registered a total of 1,907 applications for 310 available study places, of which 689 were men and 1,218 were women. Compared to 2021, this was around 300 fewer registrations. According to Koch, who will ultimately receive one of the coveted study places will probably be announced on August 8th. “We are aware that the students are eagerly awaiting the results. We will therefore endeavor to evaluate the test results within a month,” says Vice Rector Koch.

Multi-part written test

The entrance test for the study of human medicine (abbreviated to MedAT-H) is a multi-part, written procedure. The previous school knowledge from the areas of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics is tested in sections. Texts are then presented to the students, with their reading skills and text comprehension being tested. Cognitive abilities and skills are also required: the composition of figures, sequences of numbers, verbal fluency, memory and retention as well as the recognition of implications are tested. In the last part of the test, the candidates demonstrate their social-emotional skills.
