According to the Ministry of the Interior and Health, 9,654 new infections were registered within 24 hours on Saturday. This is below the average for the past week, where 10,206 new cases were added every day. However, the number of hospital patients has increased again. Now, with 1,002, more than 1,000 infected people have to be treated in the hospitals, 55 are in intensive care units.
On Thursday, too, the number of hospital patients was in four figures, the last time this was the case around two months ago, on May 6th. Since Friday, 15 more infected people have had to be admitted to the hospitals. Since last Saturday, 128 patients have been added. Since the previous day, there has been a decrease of two seriously ill patients in the intensive care units, and the number of patients has decreased by three in a week-to-week comparison.
According to the ministries, 37 deaths have been registered since Friday. 79 deaths have been reported in the past seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,872 lives in Austria since it broke out. However, AGES already counted 20,107 deaths on Friday since the beginning of the pandemic.
The seven-day incidence fell slightly on Saturday to 795.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, on Friday it was 800.2. On Saturday there were 117,807 laboratory-confirmed active cases in Austria, 779 fewer than on Friday. Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 4,520,395 confirmed cases in Austria.
The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is Vienna with 1,127.4, followed by Lower Austria (892.6), Burgenland (819.8) and Vorarlberg (734.5). It is followed by Salzburg (699.5), Upper Austria (642.5), Styria (638.1), Tyrol (576.2) and Carinthia (549.1).
Across Austria, 103,341 PCR and antigen rapid tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 95,997 were meaningful PCR tests, the positive rate of the PCR tests was 10.1 percent. On average, more than 104,580 PCR analyzes were carried out every day in the past week, with an average of 9.8 percent delivering positive results.
The current corona wave is causing the willingness to vaccinate to increase slightly again. Across Austria, 5,292 vaccinations were carried out on Friday, of which 190 were first bites. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,833,092 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 5,018,959 people are basic immunized, i.e. have received three vaccinations. That is 55.9 percent of the total population.
