The 33-year-old set out for the Rotkogel on Saturday, but then got lost on the descent. A search operation had to be canceled during the night, and the air rescue services had reached their limits due to the weather. According to the police, the hypothermic woman was found on Sunday morning at around 2,000 meters above sea level and flown to Bad Aussee Regional Hospital.
It was only around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday that the woman’s relatives reported that the hiker had lost her way in the Rotkogel area and could no longer find her way down into the valley on her own because of the darkness. The planned search operation with around 60 people from the mountain rescue centers in Bad Aussee, Bad Mitterndorf, Tauplitz and Stainach was broken off at around 2 a.m. without any results. The mountain rescue services have been on the move again since Sunday morning at 5 a.m. A Christophorus 99 emergency doctor helicopter, a helicopter from the Aigen army and the Liezen alpine police were also deployed. The missing person was found around 10 a.m. in the Rotkogelsattel area.
