Touch of the Middle Ages in Linz: “An exciting day for the whole family”

“When I grow up I want to be a knight”, says Paul and his eyes reflect the enthusiasm. Nobody has to tell the young man that it won’t play that. But it is proof of how genuinely the medieval flair was conveyed to thousands of visitors by the knights’ festival on Saturday in Linz’s old town.

Tina, who is a bit older than Paul, would also like to have a tame dragon that you can pet. Parents would probably care less about this “domestic animal” happy, especially since it also breathes fire. But that’s for show – and the dragon is human-controlled.

It was above all the children who really got their money’s worth at the 16th edition of the knights’ festival organized by the Familienbund. With perfect weather conditions it was a “exciting day for the whole family”Family Association chairman Bernhard Baier draws a satisfied conclusion.

Enthusiastic visitors

For the organizers, the beaming faces of the small and slightly larger Knights’ Festival guests were proof that the diverse program throughout the day did not fail to have an impact.

Many artists kept the families, who had traveled to the provincial capital from all over Upper Austria to immerse themselves in the Middle Ages between the old town and the castle, in a good mood. You could be entertained by minstrels and acrobats or indulge in culinary delights at the medieval market. And there were plenty of shows and demonstrations that captivated visitors. With the highlight of the big fire show at Linz Castle at the end of the festival.

There was a particularly large number of visitors for the miner’s apprenticeship, where the children could learn the most important things about life in the Middle Ages. And where that one “career aspiration” by Paul, which he will probably have for a while.
