Paraglider seriously injured in accident at Grünberg

A 30-year-old paraglider from Altmünster landed in the crown of a 25-meter-high tree on Tuesday afternoon after his glider suddenly collapsed sideways after flying from Grünberg. The man must have unhooked himself from the harness while trying to free himself and fell about 20 meters unchecked onto the steep forest floor. From there he slipped about 15 meters before he lay down, seriously injured.

The man managed to sound the alarm and give the emergency services his location via cell phone. Nine members of the Gmunden mountain rescue service, the crew of the Martin 3 emergency doctor helicopter and two officials climbed up the rough terrain to the isolated accident site.

The seriously injured man was treated by the emergency doctor and then carried to a clearing on a stretcher, from where he was rescued by the helicopter using a 50-meter rope and flown to the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck.
