With a collection point for war toys in the Varena shopping center, Upper Austria. Kinderfreunde set a sign for peaceful coexistence. Customers can throw toy guns into the box located at the Lollipop children’s fun park (upper floor).
Varena also agrees with Kinderfreunde’s call to generally refrain from using violent toys. “We think that games and weapons don’t mix,” says center manager Thomas Krötzl. “In our lollipop, children can let off steam without violence.”
The Peace Box is intended to be an opportunity for children and young people, but also for adults, to deal with what war and violence do and what each individual can contribute to peaceful coexistence. “Disposing of toy guns from the household can be a first step in this direction,” says Krötzl.
Natascha Schernberger, Kinderfreunde managing director in the Salzkammergut, welcomes the cooperation: “We stand for peaceful interaction with each other. That’s how it starts. We are all role models.”
