ÖGB: Low women’s pensions in Upper Austria

The gap to men’s pensions, which are among the higher in a federal state comparison, is only slowly shrinking. The Federation of Trade Unions (ÖGB) pointed this out on the occasion of Equal Pension Day in Upper Austria: On July 14, men received as much pension as women in a whole year.

An average women’s pension in Upper Austria is currently 1170 euros gross per month, the average men’s pension is 2179 euros. The difference is 46.3 percent. The first survey was held six years ago, when the gap was 48.2 percent. An important reason for the differences is the high rate of part-time work, which has a full impact on pensions, says ÖGB women’s chair Elfriede Schober. She calls for a legal right to care from the child’s first birthday.
