According to the details given to the press by the entity, all the remains were unearthed in Ilowo Osada, in the Bialucki forest, near the concentration camp that was built during the occupation of Poland by Nazi Germany in World War II.
The Soldau camp was mainly used as a place of transit, internment and extermination of political opponents, members of the Polish elites and Jews.
The discovery of this place “makes it easy to say that at least 8,000 people died here,” reported Tomasz Jankowski, prosecutor at the IPN.
“The victims buried in this grave were probably killed around 1939 and belonged mostly to Polish elites,” according to Jankowski.
They unearthed an underground Nazi bunker
In September last year, the Polish city of Lublin a group of masons found an underground Nazi bunker while working on the construction of a parking lot.
Alerting the investigators, they found helmets used by the army led by Adolf Hitler, bullets and weapons at the scene.
The underground bunker had wooden floors and an access stairway that connected to three corridors that extended underground.
“The bunker was built using classical mining methods,” said Dariusz Kopciowski, head of the Lublin Monuments Conservation office.
“For now, the construction found has to be studied and analyzed, so that the investor of the building complex can locate their apartments in a safe place. You have to take a lot of precautions.” Kopciowski noted.
The space appeared in a city that was the site of Operation Reinhard, the main German effort to exterminate the Jews in German-occupied Poland.
