Bicycle thieves caused €155,000 in damage

According to police reports on Thursday, a total of 13 burglaries were caused by Czech citizens between the ages of 30 and 42. The total damage was estimated at 155,000 euros. One of the suspects is on the run, and the man is being sought using a European arrest warrant from the public prosecutor in Wels.

The surveys have been conducted since November of the previous year, the Lower Austria State Police Directorate reported in a broadcast. In addition to bicycles in the classic sense, the quintet also specialized in theft of e-bikes. The perpetrators struck several times in Upper Austria: twice in Wels and Freistadt, once in Gmunden.

Two perpetrators in custody in Wels

The handcuffs first clicked on January 12 after a burglary in Ybbs ad Donau (Melk district) for a 34-year-old and his 42-year-old accomplice. The two were taken to Wels Prison by order of the public prosecutor.

Three men aged between 30 and 37 were then investigated. While the youngest of them is still on the run, a 34-year-old is being held in Germany for commercial burglary. The 37-year-old was arrested by Czech police on May 24 on the basis of a European arrest warrant. The suspect has not yet been extradited.
