Biden promised that the United States and Israel would “further strengthen” their ties, notably mentioning a partnership “in the world’s most sophisticated defense systems.”
Reiterating the Americans’ “unwavering” commitment to “Israel’s security,” the president attended a presentation of Israel’s missile defense capabilities, including the “Iron Dome” system and a new anti-drone laser response device called “Iron Beam” (Iron Beam).
Shortly afterward, Biden visited the Israeli memorial to the Shoah (Nazi Germany’s genocide of the Jews) at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
Wearing a black yarmulke, he placed a wreath in front of the memorial, rekindled the flame and spoke with two survivors. “We must never, never forget why hate never expires,” he wrote in the venue’s guestbook.
After Biden’s arrival, the new Israeli Prime Minister, Yair Lapid, said that both leaders discussed “the need to restore a strong global coalition to stop the Iranian nuclear program.”

Meanwhile, Biden’s trip to Saudi Arabia, his next stage, is seen as part of the effort to stabilize oil markets, shaken by the war in Ukraine, by getting closer to a country that for decades was a strategic ally of the United States and a major supplier of crude oil.
“The fact that Biden flies directly to Saudi Arabia sums up the dynamics of the last few months,” a senior Israeli official said.
Israel hopes that this visit will also be the beginning of its diplomatic relations with Riyadh.
After coming to power, Biden did not reverse Trump’s controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Regarding the conflict, Biden declared that, according to him, “the solution
of two states [uno palestino y otro israelí] it was still the best”, but admitted that this prospect, however, was still distant.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Monday that Washington had restored “almost severed diplomatic ties” with the Palestinians.
