Exactly 800 years ago yesterday, Eferding received its town charter. The celebrations are in full swing: Until Sunday, visitors can be taken back to the early days of the city’s history in the medieval camp in Mittergraben. Tomorrow at 8 p.m. Karl Sibelius and the Johann Strauss Orchestra will give a concert on the town square.
In their jubilee year, the people of Eferding are not only looking to the past, but also to the future. That is why the schools in the municipality have designed a time capsule under the direction of Gabriele Porod, director of the Polytechnic School in Eferding. During a small ceremony on the town square, this was placed in a specially dug hole, which was then sealed. The container will only see the light of day again in 100 years to mark the 900th anniversary of the city.
The waterproof container was painted with the Eferdinger city coat of arms and various motifs, and each school also contributed to the contents. The students wrote letters, created CDs and collected testimonies. Exactly what was put in the capsule remains a secret – so that a look at the archive can’t spoil the surprise even in 100 years.
