Day of honor of a radiant princess

The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria is now halfway through her fifth decade of life: the eldest daughter of King Carl XVI. Gustaf (76) celebrated her 45th birthday yesterday on the Baltic Sea island of Öland. After two years with smaller celebrations due to the pandemic, the day of honor of the heir to the throne was celebrated again. In the late afternoon at Solliden Castle, Victoria was first serenaded by her father, a children’s choir and onlookers, before she and her family drove by carriage to the traditional concert in the ruins of Borgholm Castle. The mother of two’s birthday on July 14 is a big deal for the Swedes. Around the day, the Victoria Days take place on Öland with various events.

Victoria is the head of the line of succession to the Swedish throne, so she will one day be the Scandinavian country’s next queen. Actually, in the Swedish monarchy only men were destined to ascend the throne. Carl Gustaf had the law changed for his daughter, paving the way for the future of his granddaughter Estelle.
