60 million euros: A new sorting facility is being built in Ennshafen

Around 100,000 tons of packaging are to be sorted in the plant every year. The investment volume is around 60 million euros.

In order to meet a European Union requirement, Austria must double the recycling of plastic packaging by 2025. The existing 15 Austrian companies and their sorting capacities of 1,000 to 30,000 tons per year would not be sufficient for this goal, according to a broadcast. The planned work is intended to remedy this. “With the new sorting system, we have the capacity and technology we need in time for 2025,” explained ARA board member Christoph Scharff.

With a sorting capacity of 100,000 tons of lightweight packaging per year, it will be the largest facility in Austria. A major advantage of the plant is that the unit costs can also be reduced by using higher capacities. At the same time, a geographical sorting gap in northern Austria is being closed, which is currently making longer transport routes to more distant sorting plants at home and abroad necessary. The ARA wants to take care of the necessary utilization of the plant, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2024, together with the Green Dot.
