Within one day, 12,585 new corona infections were registered in Austria. The Friday value is thus above the average of the past seven days of 10,938 positive tests, but similar to the previous day. The seven-day incidence rose to 853 cases per 100,000 population. The hospital floor has grown significantly. There are 1,211 infected people in the hospital, 23 percent more than a week ago. 78 affected people receive intensive care, a weekly increase of 37 percent.
Since the previous day, the number of hospitalized has increased by 45 Covid patients, including seven in intensive care. Nine deaths were added in 24 hours, a total of 90 in the past seven days. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior and Health, the Covid 19 pandemic has claimed 18,925 lives in Austria. However, the Agency for Health and Food Security (AGES) already reports 20,163 Covid fatalities.
Burgenland reported 468 new infections on Friday morning, Carinthia 513 and Lower Austria 2,838. 2,010 infections were added in Upper Austria, 571 in Salzburg and 1,397 in Styria. A further 833 cases were reported from Tyrol, 549 from Vorarlberg and 3,406 from Vienna.
Of the most recent 93,881 PCR tests, 13.4 percent were positive. This 24-hour value is above the average of ten percent positive PCR tests in the past week. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is Vienna with 1,133 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Vorarlberg (917, 866 and 850 respectively). Upper Austria (796), Salzburg (758), Styria (684), Tyrol (656) and Carinthia (582) also rank.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have been 4,587,307 confirmed cases in Austria, with almost 77,000 in the past week alone. 4,446,382 people have had one or more infections, and 9,794 were considered free of the virus within the past 24 hours. There were more than 120,000 active cases nationwide on Friday.
An infected person currently infects around 1.03 other people with SARS-CoV-2 in this country. In the previous week, the effective number of reproductions calculated by AGES and TU Graz was 1.07. In Vienna it is even below the critical mark of 1.0. It is around this value in Lower Austria and over 1.0 in Burgenland, Carinthia, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria, Tyrol and Vorarlberg. This emerges from the weekly update on the AGES website. The daily increase in new cases fell slightly from 3.1 to 2.1 percent.
