Trains from Munich, Nuremberg and Passau ended prematurely, the railway announced on Friday. Replacement traffic is “only possible to a limited extent” because not enough buses are available. Significant delays and train cancellations are expected to continue until Saturday.
According to the Landshut volunteer fire brigade, two trains were stranded near the main train station due to the damage on Thursday afternoon at high temperatures. The emergency services took a total of around 750 passengers from the two trains, supplied them with water and brought them to the station. Several people also needed medical attention because of the heat on the trains.
The damage to the overhead line was caused when a train passed on Thursday afternoon, said a railway spokesman. The reason for this is so far unclear. Initially, the railway had reported an object in the overhead line as the reason for the disruption. So far, however, this assumption has not been confirmed, the spokesman said.
