Accident on the Danube: motor boat rammed passenger ship in Linz

The accident happened around 10:40 p.m. late in the evening. The ship’s captain reported a collision with a pleasure craft. But it was no longer visible. It was initially assumed that the boat and its crew sank in the Danube. Therefore, all ship radio stations in the Linz area were alerted.

Officials from the Dornach Police Inspectorate and the crew of the police boat “Poseidon” were finally able to sight the sports boat at the winter port. It had been unlit and unmaneuverable. The professional fire brigade towed the boat to the pier of the state fire brigade command. Rescuers awaited the injured passengers there. It is a 48-year-old woman from the Gmunden district and two people from Linz aged 41 and 54.

The 54-year-old skipper told the police how the incident happened. He did not see the lights of the passenger ship, said the man, who, according to the alcohol test, had a blood alcohol level of 0.56. After the collision, the boat and the ship scraped past each other on the starboard side. The boat was badly damaged. The passenger ship had to continue the journey due to the current, the professional fire brigade said in a broadcast.
