In an appearance before the population after announcing the changes, the President of Ukraine also accused about 60 staff members of the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Security Service because “they remained in the territories occupied by Russia and they collaborated with the Russians.
“Such a set of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state and the connections that have been recorded between the employees of the Ukrainian security forces and the special services of Russia raise very serious questions for the relevant leaders,” Zelensky declared in comments collected by the kyiv Independent newspaper and quoted by the Europa Press news agency.
He also added that 651 criminal proceedings related to high treason and collaboration of employees of prosecutors, investigative bodies and other agencies responsible for enforcing the law were registered.
He said such crimes raised “very serious questions” for relevant leaders, adding: “Each of these questions will receive an adequate answer,” quoted by the British newspaper The Guardian.
dismissals
According to the decree published on the website of the Presidency of Ukraine, Bakalov was dismissed in accordance with Article 47 of the Disciplinary Statute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which refers to the “failure to perform (or improper performance of) duties of service with the consequent cost of human lives”.
Zelensky’s relationship with Bakanov dates back decades as they were childhood friends and the two also worked in the entertainment industry: Zelensky as an actor and Bakanov as director of the Kvartal 95 studio, according to The New York Times.
For her part, the prosecutor was dismissed by virtue of the war powers assumed by Zelenski after the Russian invasion of the country, without giving further details.
