Four midwives from the Gmunden area have formed an association to enable constant midwife care during childbirth. Her “midwife room” is open to Families who need support in the initial period after the birth and have not found a midwife to take care of them at home. In the Land-Apotheke Pinsdorf and in the shop “Die Stöttingers” in Vorchdorf, Stefanie Stöttinger, Elisabeth Gattinger, Christine Reisenberger and Anna Suchetrunk offer outpatient basic care for mother and child.
“Were frustrated”
“Again and again we had to turn women away for aftercare because our capacities were exhausted. This frustrated us more and more,” says Stefanie Stöttinger about her motivation for starting the “midwives’ room”. Every new family should have the opportunity to receive midwife support. “Together we worked out how we could find a solution for the families and the limited capacities of the midwives.” During the confinement phase, i.e. the first eight weeks of the baby’s life, parents can now turn to the experienced midwives during consultation hours.

The midwives check the baby’s weight and navel, provide support with breastfeeding or explain alternative feeding methods. The mother is also looked at when the involution of the uterus or any birth injuries are checked. “We all have experience in looking after families after childbirth and can therefore draw on a wealth of knowledge,” says Stöttinger. If closer checks are necessary, the midwife will refer you to the responsible pediatrician or gynecologist, the breastfeeding clinic or other experts.
“The families register with us online in advance and receive a 30-minute appointment, which takes place either in Pinsdorf or in Vorchdorf,” explains the midwife. If possible, you should register for the consultation hour in the previous week. Appointments are only made online. 50 euros are to be paid per appointment and ea one-off material and registration fee of ten euros. The invoice can then be submitted to the health insurance company, and part of the costs will be reimbursed.
