Bereket Selomun, 20, was found dead on the morning of July 7 in the woods near Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in southern England.
An autopsy revealed that a young man who was given asylum after he fled from Eritrea to northeast Africa suffered multiple stab wounds. According to the newspaper daily mail, the police have already charged five men with the murder of a refugee. Jalani Omer, Robel Msange and Malake Fiseha, 23, Temesgen Gebremedhin, 20, and Natnael Khadgu, 18, are expected to attend St Albans Magistrates’ Court.
Ian McPherson, Major Crimes Inspector for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, said the investigation into Selomun’s death would continue. “Following the arrests, the charges have now been confirmed. However, we continue to appeal to all witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police with a request to report this, ”he said.
“Our thoughts remain with the Bereket family during this extremely difficult time,” McPherson said.
