The goal must be support when the heating season begins and the energy costs are actually very noticeable. “For me, that means implementation starting in the fall,” said Nehammer on Monday at a joint press conference with Slovakian Prime Minister Eduard Heger in Vienna.
The specific content of the proposal is not yet on the table. It must be checked how support with the gas or electricity bill can actually be brought to the people, what legal framework and technical possibilities are required for this and whether it is also possible under data protection law. It is also about sounding out what is reasonable and what makes sense. “In any case, it should be a noticeable relief for the people,” emphasized the Chancellor.
Nehammer explained that he himself considered the “access to be correct”, that on the one hand there was help because the energy costs were “absurdly high”. On the other hand, there is also an incentive for people to adapt their usage behavior and save on energy costs.
