Training for the “Professional World Cup”

This November, the “WorldSkills World Skills Championships” are taking place for the 46th time. This year, 46 young talents, who must not be older than 22 years according to the competition specifications, represent the republic. Last week they came together at the Bauakademie in Steyregg for a team-building workshop to strengthen cohesion through joint activities – climbing training, “Highland Games” or simply cooking together in the evening.

Because although they will all compete in different competitions in different countries, according to Josef Herk, the Austrian participants should encourage each other. “You will feel that an entire Skills nation is keeping its fingers crossed for you,” says the President of the Skills Austria association.

Because the original venue, Shanghai, had to be cancelled, this year the competitions are taking place for the first time in the participating countries all over the world – including in Austria. Seven professional groups will compete for medals in the Salzburg Exhibition Center in November.

The World Cup will be a “home game” for eight participants. The rest will travel to the respective venues, such as Japan. A total of 1400 participants from more than 60 professional groups will be measuring their professional skills this year. The aim of the event is to promote young professionals and to break new ground in vocational training.
