Bolsonaro horrifies ambassadors with his criticism of the electoral system

Before dozens of ambassadors and diplomats, Bolsonaro denounced the lack of reliability of the electronic ballot boxes and asked that the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) accept the recommendations of military about the voting system.

“Foreign ambassadors defined the presentation this Monday afternoon as a trumpist tactic to divert the focus of attention or to prepare the ground for the questioning of the elections”, published this Tuesday the newspaper Folha de Sao Paulo.

The diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Folha that Bolsonaro’s statement seemed directed at his constituents rather than representatives of foreign governments.

Ambassadors in shock

During his presentation of about 50 minutes, Bolsonaro questioned the president of the TSE, Edson Fachinfor his alleged bias in favor of the opposition candidate and former president Lula da Silva and for making statements abroad against his government.

Fachin recently said in Washington that in the October elections, where Bolsonaro will seek his second term, events similar to the assault on the US Capitol in January 2021 may occur.

The newspaper Or Balloon published, meanwhile, that some ambassadors left the Palace of Alvoradaconcerned with democracy” from Brazil.

An ambassador commented, under the confidentiality of his identity, that “the only thing left to do is force the institutions to work” in October.

Meanwhile, a “head of diplomatic representation” said that he is going to prepare a report on Bolsonaro’s speech in which he will indicate that he tried to “disqualify” the institutions and there were sections in which democracy was threatened, reported O Globo.
